Biking in Punta Gorda

Biking in Punta GordaA great way to see the sites of downtown and the waterfront in Punta Gorda is on a bike. Many great trails meander through these popular hotspots in Punta Gorda. The trails are fairly new to the area but are increasingly popular and you can even borrow a bike for free.

It is not uncommon to see people on a bike enjoying the trails. There's a growing network of multi-use paved trails called the Punta Gorda pathways. 18 planned miles make up the trails and nine of them are completely paved. Several of the trails wind along the Peace River and give the most amazing views of the area.

If you are more serious about your cycling there are longer trails available including the on-street routes from 17 to 30 miles long through Punta Gorda and surrounding areas. Recently bike trails have been marked with traffic signs which is a project that was spearheaded by a Punta Gorda resident who has been biking through the town much longer than when the popularity of biking exploded. It was a project brought to Punta Gorda by a dedicated team of volunteers. Since the trails have been carved out and paved you will always see several locals and visitors enjoying the trails. They are not just popular for biking either you will see many people walking their furry family members, jogging, rollerblading, and more.

One of the newest carved-out pathways is the 2 miles around Linear Park that also winds through the city's historic neighborhood district full of gorgeous tree-lined streets.

The free bike loan program

This team of volunteers who brought the trails to Punta Gorda also brought the state's first free bike loan program in 2010. TEAM Punta Gorda is very proud of providing this increasingly popular service to the city. You can spot the free bikes by their distinctive yellow color. The trails continuously grow into a bigger labyrinth and system and those who frequently visit Punta Gordo love to see how the trails have grown and developed since they have last visited.
